Microsoft was the last of the three major players in the search engine market to create its own PPC service. Before Microsoft AdCenter was established, all the PPC advertising that appeared on MSN Search and Live Search was generated by Yahoo! (Overture). In 2006, Microsoft started fusing its new PPC service with the listings it was receiving from Yahoo! In June 2006 the contract between Microsoft and Yahoo! was terminated and Microsoft established its PPC engine within the PPC market place.

In November 2007 Microsoft AdCenter added a unique feature to its PPC administration functions. This allowed its advertisers to chose to show their adverts not only on specific days, but at specific times of day. This can be beneficial if you have statistical data showing when your target audience is searching for your products or services.
